Ideally everyone should feel safe enough to express their struggles and what they’re going through. But for someone who doesn’t have that privilege and blessing – which is most of us – we can suppress our emotions and thoughts until they become unbearable.

Put another way – if we don’t have anything to speak of, or if we don’t need to be vulnerable, there isn’t a need for a safe space. A safe space should allow expression of these things, especially for the sake of mental health. Holding everything in and having no one safe to talk to can be very harmful.
