Objectivity doesn’t solve the problem. Let me get that straight. Objective facts, on their own, don’t get through to the inner critic or the depressive episodes.
But objective facts provides a solid wall of truth against which we can operate. Without it, it’s easier to get lost in the whirlpools and brickbats of the lies and criticisms howling in our heads. So with a record of truth like a journal, it’s harder to get lost. We still will get lost. It’s just another tool in the arsenal to help ourselves with.
And if you can’t do it, that’s okay too. I know it’s good for me, but I struggle to keep the journal. But when I do note it down, it helps sometimes, especially when the critic is loud.
