Fighting ourselves is never easy. So it’s often easier to ignore it, and do other things to distract ourselves, or to avoid problems.
Mental health conditions aren’t forgiving on that though. The problem is now in your face. Facing up to it isn’t an option. It’s the only way to go on living in a way that matters. And along the way, we pick up new skills, new things. We’re given an option to grow and change. Not many others have that option. And that is what the recovery journey can be. A journey of discovery, a journey of healing, forgiving, learning, change, and growth.
I’m thankful.
But it’s hard.
