Staying present isn’t easy for me, even at the best of times. I don’t know if it’s purely a depression thing or not, but that’s exactly why staying present helps me now, because it keeps me from being overwhelmed in either direction.

The mind easily gets stuck in “what if”s and “maybe”s. There’s no what if or maybe in the present. What is around you, is around you. What can happen 3 hours later will happen 3 hours later, not right now, not to do with the breath that you breathe, or the pain in my fourth toe on my left foot.

And when things get overwhelming, this helps more than you’d think.
