People don’t get or talk about how frustrating recovery can be. Part of that is self stigma (I’m weak because I’m not healing fast), and part of that is societal (backsliding? Slow progress? You’re weak or the method doesn’t work).

But recovery is very much like rock climbing. You look ahead only to the next few steps to climb, even if you can predict the route you’ll take. You take each step gently but firmly, testing the outcropping in case it breaks off. And sometimes, you might slip, and drop a bit, but with the right safety measures, you’ll get back into it in no time.

So let’s stay the course. Because we can. And eventually, hopefully, because we want to.
