The first most difficult lesson I had to learn, was that my depression is a terrible slavemaster, and a horrible bedmate that I had to get used to. That this round, it won’t be as easy as taking a pill and reporting to work. Acceptance was hard.

The second most difficult lesson, which is easier now, was to take each day on its own. Mental health fights are long fights. If we took a look at the fight as a whole, it’s daunting. It’s scary.

So one of the skills I had to learn was to break down my tasks and my problems into smaller bits. It isn’t easy, but it helps me to cope.
