Self care isn’t being selfish or self-centered. Self care means taking time out for yourself so that you can take care of yourself, the same way you’d do for a friend that’s otherwise well but you want to have them enjoy themselves doing something they like. It helps to take away stress, and recharge the body and mind for the longer distance.

Of course, that’s a problem in depression. Just take smaller steps of self care. But it’s still vitally important as a step in recovery.
